Biography
Professor Pilar Perales Viscasillas is the Chair of Commercial Law at Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M). National and international arbitrator. Prof. Perales has participated in more than 40 arbitrations procedures related to commercial contracts, in Spanish and English languages: institutional (ICC, CAM, CEA, ICAM and CIAM) and ad hoc (UNCITRAL Rules). Member of the Board of Directors, as Independent Director of MAPFRE SA, a leading multinational company in insurance and reinsurance.
Author of seven monographs in matters related to international sale of goods contracts, uniform law of international trade, commercial contract law, company law, insurance and arbitration, as well as more than a hundred publications in collective and periodical works, several of them in English. Professor Perales Viscasillas was an observer in the Working Group for the preparation of the third and fourth editions of the UNIDROIT Principles on International Commercial Contracts (2010 and 2016) (2007-2010 and 2017).
She has been Spanish Delegate to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL-UNCITRAL) (2001-2014) in Working Group II on International Commercial Arbitration, and Spanish correspondent for CLOUT (2002-2017). Member of the Plenary of the Centro Internacional de Arbitraje de Madrid (CIAM) and Council member of The Spanish Club of Arbitration.
Member of the Executive Board of SEAIDA (The Spanish Branch of AIDA, Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances). Co-Chair of the Cátedra de Derecho Empresarial Deloitte Legal. Director of the Moot Madrid, and co-Director of the Master on International Advocacy (UC3M). Languages: Spanish (mother tongue), English and Portuguese.
